HOW TO MAKE HEALTHY CHANA DAL PULAO

Ingredients

Chana dal (soaked) – ¼ cup

Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp

Black peppercorns – 1\2 tbsp

Brown rice – 1/2 Cup

Cloves – 3 to 4

Onions sliced – 2 Large size

Water – 250 ml

Tomatoes chopped – 2

Desi Ghee – 1 tbsp

Bayleaf – 2

Cinnamon Stick – 1 whole

Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp

Instructions:

  • Firstly, wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker or deep pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  • Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chili. Cook for a minute until fragrant.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
  • Drain the soaked chana dal and add it to the pan. Mix well with the spices.
  • Add the soaked rice and mix gently with the dal and spices.
  • Pour 2 cups of water, add salt, and stir it.
  • If using a pressure cooker, close the lid and cook for 2 whistles or until the rice and dal are cooked.
  • If using a pan, cover and cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes until the rice is fluffy and the dal is tender.
  • Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
